Empowering Women by redefining ceramic art

An authentic thought behind the social enterprise

An authentic thought behind the social enterprise

In the year 2004 while working on the DCH project, Kuprkabi Foundation was rooted in the thoughts of Vanmala. She decided to work on her idea, “Most of the women knows how to kned the dough and use needle and thread have the ability to create this form of art”.

Vanmala being from Mumbai and with all her experience, she started meeting women from the financially weaker section of the society. She was plesantly surprised to see her efforts bearing fruit. She felt her dream had begun to shape up.

Initially with this exploration, work in the Foundation started in 2004. However after working successfully in the village of Naigaon and the suburbs of Mumbai, Kuprkabi Foundation a non-profit trust (NGO) was registered with Charity Commissioner Mumbai in 2010.

Working at Kuprkabi

The new products are designed and developed at Kuprkabi Studio, whereas the basic elements are handcrafted by the beneficiaries at their home.

Today, as a social enterprise, foundation works towards empowerment of women from slums, and school dropouts by imparting skill building training programs in core material clay.

To complement the clay products, foundation also explores materials like cloth, wood, metal wires, leather,  bamboo and cane.
